Sunscreen Is the Only Anti-Aging Product With Actual Evidence

Published April 18, 2026 · 3 min read · Take the Health Quiz

Retinol, vitamin C, peptides — all fine. But without sunscreen, you're losing the game...

UV radiation (UVA + UVB) is responsible for 80–90% of visible skin aging — wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, texture changes, and loss of elasticity. UVA penetrates clouds and glass and causes collagen damage without visible burning. The VAPPEX study (2013) is the only randomized controlled trial on topical skin aging: daily SPF use over 4.5 years produced measurably younger-looking skin compared to discretionary use.

No retinol, no vitamin C, no peptide study has this level of evidence. SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB. SPF 50 blocks 98%.

The difference between them is 1%. The difference between wearing any SPF vs none is everything.

Retinol.

Vitamin C.

Peptides.

These have decent evidence.

But 80-90% of visible skin aging is from UV radiation.

Wrinkles.

Pigmentation.

Texture.

Lost elasticity.

UVA — the aging wavelength — penetrates clouds and glass.

The only RCT on topical anti-aging: daily SPF use over 4.5 years produced measurably younger skin than discretionary use.

No other ingredient has that trial.

SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB.

SPF 50 blocks 98%.

The difference between them is 1%.

The difference between wearing any SPF and nothing is decades.

This is the non-negotiable..

Apply SPF 30 minimum every morning, even indoors near windows. Nothing else in your skincare routine compounds without this foundation.
